Dusk known issues and workarounds
This page is designed to become the highest-value page on the site: a living support database organized by symptom, platform, Dusk version, and workaround.
Dusklight v1.2.0 snapshot
v1.2.0 shipped on May 18, 2026 UTC and is now the release users should test before reporting most Dusk Twilight Princess problems. It changes the support picture for graphics backends, capped FPS, texture replacement toggles, autosave safety, controller bind cleanup, macOS launch behavior, and Android fallback rendering.
| Status | What changed | User action |
|---|---|---|
| Added | Experimental D3D11 on Windows and experimental OpenGL ES on Android. | Use them as fallbacks after testing the preferred D3D12, Vulkan, or Metal path. |
| Added | Capped FPS option and area output resampling. | Use the built-in cap before stacking external frame limiters and power tools. |
| Added | Texture replacement toggle from inside the game. | Disable texture replacements quickly when separating a pack issue from an engine issue. |
| Fixed | Autosave safety, title screen softlock, v1.1.1 mipmap texture replacement regression, several crashes, PAL keyboard, shoulder analog values, and macOS launch problems. | Update before filing older crash, texture, macOS, or controller reports. |
| Known issue | Adreno driver issues remain unresolved in the official v1.2.0 notes. | Record GPU, Android version, backend, and device model before reporting. |
| Watchlist | Android data folder access, controller profiles, stutter after update, and texture replacement edge cases have active reports. | Use the issue-specific guides below before reinstalling or deleting data. |

Launch failures
App does not open on macOS
Check whether the current release supports your macOS version and chip. If macOS blocks the app, use the normal right-click Open flow for first launch. If the app crashes immediately, update Dusk and check GitHub Issues.
Windows opens and closes silently
Try a short ASCII-only path such as a folder under your user directory, then retest. Non-English usernames and protected folders can be useful debugging variables.
Linux permission error
Mark the binary executable and keep the app in a folder where it can create data files.
Disc image errors
Disc image did not pass verification
Dusk expects a supported clean GameCube Twilight Princess disc image. A modified ISO, wrong region, incomplete dump, or random download can fail. Use the dedicated hash verification failed guide for SHA-1 values and commands, then read disc image safety for the legal boundary.
The selected game is not supported
This is usually a version or region problem, not a graphics or controller problem. Dusklight v1.2.0 publicly supports GameCube USA and GameCube EUR / PAL disc images. Wii, Korea, Japan, and HD files need the unsupported game guide.
Modded ISO will not load
Do not test mods through a modified base ISO first. Confirm clean Dusk launches with a supported image, then apply Dusk-compatible mods separately.
Fresh v1.2.0 reports to watch
These are not universal breakages, but they are current support signals worth tracking because users are already searching around them after the v1.2.0 update.
| Report | What users see | Practical action |
|---|---|---|
| Android full data folder access | Some users cannot reach the expected Android data folder for saves or texture work. | Use save file location and record device, Android version, file manager, and Dusklight version. |
| Failed to initialize graphics backend | Low-end Android devices can fail before gameplay because the graphics path cannot initialize. | Use graphics backends, then test Vulkan and OpenGL ES separately. |
| Joysticks and triggers get unbound | Controller profiles may lose or change important bindings for some users. | Use controls setup, remove duplicate binds, and record controller model plus platform. |
| Controller configuration not saving | Bindings may not persist after closing or restarting in some setups. | Test a clean profile and include exact save steps when reporting. |
| Stuttering after update | Some users report new stutter after updating. | Use performance troubleshooting, remove texture packs, and test capped FPS. |
| Wolf Link texture replacement issue | A specific replacement case may behave incorrectly with texture packs. | Use texture pack troubleshooting and document pack, platform, and backend. |
Input and controller issues
Controller does nothing
Test Dusk with a simple controller profile before custom Steam Input or third-party remappers. If you use Steam Deck, read the Steam Deck guide. For 8BitDo, trigger conflicts, Android Bluetooth layout, and gyro/mouse aim, use the controller guide.
Gyro or mouse aim feels doubled
Do not enable two aim systems at once. Choose native Dusk input or Steam Input mapping, then retest.
Shoulder or trigger buttons conflict
Dusklight v1.2.0 adds a controller-only option to remove button binds and fixes shoulder analog values. If shoulder buttons or triggers double-fire, open controller configuration, remove duplicate bindings, then test the same controller mode before changing Steam Input or external remappers.
Graphics and display issues
Visual bugs after installing textures
Remove the texture pack and test clean Dusk. If the bug disappears, move the issue to texture pack compatibility instead of engine troubleshooting.
Mobile visual artifacts
Update to the newest official release. v1.2.0 adds experimental OpenGL ES as an Android fallback, but Adreno driver issues remain unresolved in the official notes, so record GPU and backend details.
FPS drops, battery drain, or 30 FPS behavior
Do not mix performance debugging with texture packs and custom input. Use the performance guide to test base Dusklight, platform-level caps, Android open-area slowdown, and handheld battery behavior.
Mobile issues
For Android, separate three problems: APK install, app data access, and rendering. If the APK will not install, verify the file came from the official release and that the device supports arm64. If the app opens but cannot find files, use the app's data-folder route where available. If the game loads but visuals look broken, update first and then document device model, GPU, Android version, and Dusklight version.
For iOS, sideloading, app storage, and save access are usually the hard parts. Keep iOS notes separate from Android notes so search users can scan quickly.
Save migration issues
Dolphin saves and Dusk saves are not always interchangeable by simple copy-paste. Back up saves before moving files, and keep one test save separate from your main playthrough.

Official bug tracker
Use this only after you can describe a reproducible issue on clean Dusk.
How to report a new bug
- Dusk or Dusklight version and platform.
- Device model and GPU if mobile or handheld.
- Clean install or modded setup.
- Exact error message or screenshot text.
- Whether the issue happens with a clean supported disc image.
Report reproducible engine bugs at official GitHub Issues.
Known issues page keyword coverage
This page should cover the phrases users search after the download: Dusk Twilight Princess not working, Dusk disc image rejected, Dusk Android visual bug, Dusk Steam Deck controller not working, Dusk texture pack not loading, and Dusk save migration. The page should remain a fix database, not a generic FAQ.
